Description

Worth visiting in any season …

The mountain town of Jöhstadt is situated in the Ore Mountains, on the border with the Czech Republic. Visitors will find numerous restaurants offering cultivated dining experience. And for relaxing or sportive activities, Jöhstadt and its districts have many well-signposted hiking trails to offer. As a winter sports area with guaranteed snow, the town also has several cross-country ski-tracks and two ski lifts. And during the summer months, you may enjoy our heated outdoor swimming pool. Two border crossings for pedestrians invite to hikers to excursions to the Bohemian Ore Mountains. Summer is a great time for hiking and mushroom picking in the green forests on both sides of the border, and winter is perfect for cross-country skiing or simply enjoying the snowy forest scenery. One route leads you from Jöhstadt into the valley of the Schwarzwasser river to Cerný Potok, while the other route leads you through the Preßnitztal valley, the Jöhstädt district of Schmalzgrube to Kryštofovy Hamry. As one of the attractions of the mountain town, the Preßnitztalbahn narrow gauge railway line connects Jöhstadt with Steinbach, running through the Schwarzwasser valley. A hiking trail runs along a large part of this route, with several conveniently located flagstops to get on the train or walk along the sparkling creek. And if you want to feel the unique steam of a narrow gauge train, then simply wait at one of the different stations for the next train to arrive.

One flagstop is situated near the tunnel mouth of the Andreas-Gegentrum-Stolln museum mine. This stop, which had not yet existed during the time of the German State Railway, was built by Friends of the museum railway association. This fact signals that the tourism services in the Jöhstädt region, including the districts of Steinbach, Schmalzgrube and Grumbach, have become increasingly intermeshed. For informationen on events offered during your stay and other useful suggestions for spending some relaxing days in the Ore Mountains, visit the local tourist information office. For example, different day trips to the region are offered. We also recommend you to visit Jöhstadt in winter and soak up the joyful atmosphere of the “Weihnachtsland” (Christmas Land). Candle arches shine in the windows, huge Christmas pyramides turn on many squares and the narrow gauge railway puffs through the winter forest – a wonderful winter dream.
