Chemnitz Tramway Museum
Experience the history of public transport in Chemnitz ...The Chemnitz Tramway Museum is housed in a two-span tramcar garage built in 1908, which is located in the city's oldest tramway depot. During your visit to the museum, you will find out, among many other interesting things, why the Chemnitz horse tramway was designed and built by an Englishman or how the gauge was widened to 925 mm (3 ft 13⁄32 in). The tramway museum is a living museum documenting the multifaceted tramway and transport history of Chemnitz, a tradition-steeped industrial center in Saxony. Would you like to know how a tramway controller is operated or how a ticket box works? At our exposition, you will find it out and can even try it yourself. We recommend you to combine the visit to our museum with a visit to the nearby Chemnitz Museum of Industry. In case of good weather, just enjoy a short trip on the tramway railcar built in 1919 that runs on our narrow gauge line. Moreover, three historic trams built between 1956 and 1968 can take you on a guided tour on the standard gauge tramway system in Chemnitz You can even rent them for your private party or business event.
