Please note: Kirnitzschtalbahn out of service from 3 November 2025 until 19 December 2025 (expected)

With the change to the VVO winter timetable on 3 November 2025, track construction work will begin on the Kirnitzschtalbahn. The track system of the Kirnitzschtalbahn will be completely rebuilt over a distance of approximately 300 metres between the Ostrauer Brücke and the Kirnitzschtalbahn depot.
The Kirnitzschtalbahn will have to be taken out of service during the construction work, which is expected to last until 19 December 2025. Bus line 241 between Bad Schandau, Elbbrücke and Hinterhermsdorf will serve as a replacement.
From 20 December 2025, the railway is expected to resume daily service every 70 minutes according to the winter timetable

A tram journey in the national park …

Operating only one tram line, the RVSOE is Germany’s smallest tramway company and the only one that enters a national park. Since 1898, the Kirnitzschtalbahn tramway has been carrying hikers, tourists and spa guests to their destinations in the wild, romantic Kirnitzschtal valley, along the bizarre rock formations of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains to the Lichtenhain waterfall. Along the route, a number of restaurants await their guests.

The motor trams, which are already about 50 years old, are admired not only by tramway enthusiasts but also by visitors to the Saxon Switzerland, who love to take a slow, peaceful ride on this tram with daily service.
