The tavern lies 2710 feet (826 meters) above sea level, nestling among woods and trees of the East Ore Mountains. Our guests can relax in the tranquil setting just next to the mountain station of the Altenberg ski lift. Come and be enchanted by the beautiful historic restaurant preserved in its original state. Both in summer and in winter, you will find nice and relaxing trails for hiking and cross-country skiing here. The summer toboggan run and ski lift are also nearby. Altenberg offers the natural Galgenteich swimming pools, an indoor swimming pool in the health resort, and carriage or sleigh rides. Another highlight is the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track, hosting regular national and international competitions.
