Over the past few years, the Initiative Sächsische Eisenbahngeschichte e.V. (ISEG) (initiative for Saxon railway history) in Dresden has attracted attention for salvaging and purchasing extremely valuable old standard-gauge wagons. Currently the foundation, which was established in 2010, is focussed on the reconstruction of last preserved Saxon express coach, which was built in Bautzen in 1909. Other wagons in the association’s care include Germany’s last preserved “Altenberger Wagon”, as well as the crate of the last existing baggage car. These cars are in storage at various locations in Saxony. In order to be able to maintain them, the ISEG relies on the cooperation with other players in Saxony’s museum and tourist railway scene, with railway companies as well as strategic partners. The association has also made it its mission to support the preservation of Saxony’s standard-gauge museums and tracks.
