Certifications - Parkeisenbahn Dresden (Dresden Park Railway)
For more than 50 years, the miniature park railway has been running on a 5.6-km narrow gauge line through Großer Garten park just outside the centre of Dresden. Established in 1676, the baroque-style park is the green oasis and largest park in the capital city of the Free State of Saxony. The maximum speed is nominally 30 km/h (19 mph), but never more than 20 km/h (12 mph) The five stations are situated at the following popular visitor destinations: the Dresden Zoo, "Gläserne Manufaktur", Carolasee lake (where visitors can rent boats), Carolaschlösschen restaurant & café, and the palace right in the centre of the park. A ride on the Dresden Park Railway will thus be great fun for the entire family.
The two steam locomotives, "Moritz" and "Lisa", are our jewels. They have been doing their steaming job for over 80 years now. Since 1962 and 1982, respectively, the steam engines have had the additional support from two battery-electric locomotives. Up to four trains run approximately every 10 to 36 minutes, depending on weather conditions. A total of 20 points, 16 light signals and 3 semaphores ensure the secure operation, almost like with a "big" railway. And nearly all the work is done by children and young people; only the jobs of train driver and station manager are done by adults. So join us for a ride through Großer Garten park from April to October or a special ride of the Park Railway.
