The Saxon Railway Modelers' Association has been known for its dedicated and continuous work not only among Saxon railway modelers and friends of rail transport. Founded in 1991, the SMV currently includes 62 associations with about 1,000 members in total. These associations are located in the German states of Saxony, Thuringia, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony-Anhalt , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hesse as well as in Sweden and Austria. They have been actively engaged in the hobby of model and standard gauge railways; they exchange experience and organize exhibitions. In particular, a focus of the association is to provide youth work.
