The commune of Steinberg comprises the villages of Rothenkirchen, Wernesgrün and Wildenau. The townhall of Rothenkirchen is located right at the station of the former narrow gauge railway that ran to Carlsfeld. Rothenkirchen is nestled between the Steinberg mountain (659 m/2162 ft) and Kuhberg mountain (795 m/2608 ft), both featuring an oberservation tower and restaurant. Wernesgrün is known beyond Saxony for its brewery and the historic brewery manor, where numerous folk music events take place. The circular Vogtland panorama path also passes through Steinberg.
